Are you transferring from another unemployment fund?
If you transfer from another unemployment fund, the period of membership and employment accumulated at the previous fund will be accredited to you as you transfer to the Unemployment Fund of Finnish Industrial Workers. However, you must join within one month of resigning from the previous fund. When joining, you can authorise the Industrial Union and the unemployment fund to notify the previous union and fund of your resignation.
If you are a member of a fund for entrepreneurs and are moving into paid employment, you can, when you join the Unemployment Fund of Finnish Industrial Workers at the start of the paid employment, claim the allowance for entrepreneurs from the fund for a period of possible unemployment. When you fulfil the 26-week employment condition of an employee, this so-called post-protection period for entrepreneurs expires. This requires that you join within one month of resigning from the fund for entrepreneurs. A family member of an entrepreneur, who does not own any part of the business, can insure him/herself in a wage earner’s unemployment fund in case of unemployment. Mere employment in a company owned by a family member is not deemed as entrepreneurship.
