A-kassa starts its operations at the turn of the year – Financial Supervisory Authority approved merger

The Financial Supervisory Authority has on 28 of September approved the merger of the Unemployment Fund of Finnish Industrial Workers, the Unemployment Fund Finka and the Unemployment Fund of Construction Sector as of 1 of January 2022. The name of the new unemployment fund, yet unnamed in English, has already been confirmed: Avoin työttömyyskassa, or A-kassa in short.

The new unemployment fund will be one of the biggest unemployment funds in Finland with its 190,000 members. The fund will be open to all wage-earners. According to the Head of Industrial Unemployment Fund, Irene Niskanen, the merger is doing well.

– The merger has been received well within the members of unemployment funds and the preparations for the upcoming changes are well under way.

The merger of the unemployment funds does not require any action from the members of the founding unemployment funds as the memberships will automatically be transferred to the new unemployment fund. A bigger unemployment fund will enable developing new services to members. Additionally, a new unemployment fund will be better off when responding to even stricter requirements in efficiency and services.
